Welsh Government Consider Culls
Last week the news came through the the Welsh Climate Change, Environment and Rural Affairs Committee had backed a refreshed bovine TB ‘eradication programme’. This programme divides Wales into regions based on risk of a TB outbreak. Areas with persistent TB outbreaks are being considered for a badger cull.
The campaign group Team Badger responded to the news by posting: “Disappointing that the Welsh government are considering badger culls on farms where there are persistent BTb breakdowns, in a policy u-turn which flies in the face of science. Too sad.”
It will become clearer in the coming months just how the Welsh government plan to implement this cull. But it is certainly disappointing news for the badger protection movement.
